Poster Presentation

I had a poster presentation this past Friday and chose to do the presentation on something called Bodymetrics.
Human Solutions and Bodymetrics joined together to create a 3D body scanner that allows customers to totally skip the process of trying on jeans. It takes women anywhere from 9 to 12 pairs of jeans to find the right one. Personally, I hate trying on jeans. It's the worst. Most stores create jeans with mass production and its hard to find a pair that fits a woman's body shape perfectly. This technology was actually released at a department store called Selfridges, in England in 2004. Two years later, another boutique was opened at Harrods in England. The United States still hasn't seen anything of its kind, so its still an emerging technology here. I am really excited about the technology and hope it gets brought to the U.S. It would be so easy to just order a pair of jeans, as long as your body shape doesn't change.
The presentation went really well and I had fun talking to people about their posters. I saw some really interesting things such as twoddler (Twitter for toddlers). I also really liked Google Wave. It would make it a lot easier to do class projects. The presentation itself was a lot like an elevator pitch. I really enjoyed presenting my poster.

VS Fashion Show

For all of you who are even remotely fashion oriented, or for you guys who love to watch pretty women strut their stuff if their lacy unmentionables, you would know that the Victoria's Secret fashion show was this last Tuesday night. I live for this night every year.

Guys in fraternities even know that no girl will be at their house unless they invite us over to watch this amazing annual event.
Last year, the show was filled with the beautiful angels being just that, angels. They strutted around with amazing diamond studded wings on their backs while showing off the latest fashion forward bras and panties.

This year wasn't much different. The neat thing about the show is that they not only show what the audience would be seeing, but they show what the girls are actually doing to get ready backstage. This year's show showed all of the beautiful girls running around frantic, shaking with nerves, and even dancing to the wonderful jams of the Black Eyed Peas. The downfall of the show is that no one fell over their 8-mile long legs. I know that may be a bit mean, but you have to admit that when these women are as perfect as they are, you try to find a flaw, if any. The show ended with the million dollar bra worn by Marissa Miller. I always wonder how heavy those things are and if anyone in their right mind would actually buy that thing...

New Moon: Team Jacob

So, my sister and I have this pact for the Twilight series. We had to finish all of the series before the original Twilight came out last year. Then, we promised to see every sequel together.
Because we had read the book first last year, we were very disappointed. The movie didn't do a great job of following the plot of the book. It was not made very well at the time because the lack of funds the movie brought in.
Over break, my sister and I saw the sequel, New Moon, and it was AMAZING. The characters were more seasoned actors and the movie was made very well. I am obsessed with both leading men, Edward and Jacob. Jacob is a hunk and kudos to him for working his butt off to keep his spot in the leading werewolf role.

Fashion Icons

Everyone has a fashion icon they look to for their fashion do's and don'ts. Where would we be without the style police in magazines after huge celebrity red carpet events? We wouldn't know what to think about that weird skunk hat on that famous actress or that mop hairdo on that hollywood hunk.
Someone I personally look to for my fashion trend advice is Blake Lively. She is one of the stars of the teen drama airing on Monday nights. Gossip Girl is a wonderful series that will get you hooked after the first episode. So many of the characters on the show have great fashion sense. Blake Lively carries herself in a way in which she could even wear a ratty cloth and parachute pants and be confident in her looks.

If everyone carried themselves in a confident manner no matter what they are wearing, this could go a long way. Things could be more accepted in the fashion world, unless you're mixing brown with black of course.

Lady Ga "GAG"

So, Purdue University has kindly offered an invitation to the wonderful Lady Ga Ga for January 14, 2010. I'm not going to sit here and pretend I didn't think about hashing out forty buckaroo-skis to see what Lady Ga Ga's Poker Face actually looks like. I mean, the music videos never really do give them justice.
Another reason I was mildly interested was honestly because of her outfit choices at this year's Video Music Awards.
I'm not quite sure what she was wearing, or if it was something her doctor made her wear so she wouldn't scratch her neck, but it was definitely not ok in my book.
When people start to call her the Madonna of today, I think its getting a little crazy. No one can beat Madonna any day!

I want that Jacket!

Why do all the cutest clothes have to be so expensive?! It is very insane how this economy works. This jacket probably only cost 1/3 of that price to make, but retailers mark-up the jacket price to make it into a select target market's wardrobe. I believe the pricing in the retail industry is ridiculous. Sure the economy sucks, but shouldn't that mean we should drop the prices to give the people of the world a chance to make their wardrobes fashion forward? Think about us poor college students who can't even afford dinner, but want to look good for that next interview. C'mon retailers! Do we have to all shop vintage now in order to look good? Of course, I love bargain shopping, but settling for less than the jacket I want is not okay.

Beauty of Fashion

Fashion is everywhere. The fashionista of your school has it. The famous designer has it. Even the girl who dressed so crazy, you figured she didn't look in the mirror before she left the house, yea, she even has it.
Beauty is in the eye of its beholder, and to me, fashion is beautiful. Every person on this Earth has their own sense of fashion. Whether you are the person that reads all the fashion magazines, or the person who couldn't care less, each person has their own style. I think this concept is beautiful. God made each and everyone of us UNIQUE, and this reminds me of how each person is unique in their ways of expressing themselves.

IDEO of the Fashion World

I just want to take a moment to applaud girls and women of Purdue University campus in not running around in Ugg boots this season. So far, I have seen some amazing boots! I am so happy every person has their own style and are able to show it off in a pair of amazing boots that are not made of sheepskin and fur. I don't want to take all the credit by saying my blog helped the entire campus, but lets face it, this is the go to fashion blog of the techie world. (Note: Heavy sarcasm in the last sentence). Switching Gears.
What if there was a company not unlike IDEO in the fashion world? A company that is almost like a think tank and creator for anything fashion related. I realize that this sounds a lot like the role of fashion designers, but is there anyone out there that makes fashion related things for consumers being heavily hit in their pocketbooks by the current economy? It would be amazing to have a company out there that would have people go to the high fashion and couture shows in NYC, Paris, and Milan and come back with ideas to re create these looks using different patterns and fabrics, but have them priced at an easily accessible price for all consumers.

Publications are taking a new route

Newspapers and magazines have been a big part of the publication industry. Without newspapers, no one would know what was going on in the world around us whether it be locally, nationally, or even globally. Without magazines, it is hard to imagine figuring out what to pass the time with while you're getting your hair done, or waiting at the doctor's office, or trying to pass the time at the dreaded dentist office. So many girls have turned those glossy, sleek pages imaging what it would be like to be that girl on the front cover, wearing those beautiful clothes, having your hair and makeup look absolutely perfect, and have all the greatest tips for making those perfect ringlets in your hair. When I open up the latest issue of Vogue or Elle magazine, I get a sense of hope that maybe someday someone will pick up an issue and see me on the front cover or my articles as the top story. The sad part is that the industry has been phasing out newspapers and print publications. Technology is growing, changing, and evolving daily so that someone can easily get the news or information they need at the click of a button rather than running to the grocer to pick up their paper and pay money for it. Publications are now being phased from paper to online. Every paper now has a website and their are even magazines that are becoming only available online. Bye Bye glossy cover and wonderful smelling pages.

Breaking in

The entertainment or fashion industry, in my opinion, has to be one of the hardest industries to break into. It seems to be about who you know, what you look like, where you came from, and how much money you have. Its all about fame, fortune, and even frauds. Breaking into the fashion industry has been probably the hardest feat for me. I still haven't accomplished this life-long dream, but I will someday. Fashion is something that will never die. It is constantly growing, evolving, and changing for the better or for the worse (depending on your taste). I would love to say that as a graduating senior in May of 2010, I have a wonderful job lined up at the top fashion magazine in the country. I wish. I have been using almost every form of technology to figure out what I can do to gain an advantage over other applicants to send in my resume to anything in the fashion industry. It's a shallow road and a tough one at that. If anyone has any advice for this ongoing job search of mine, please post! I welcome your thoughts and ideas!

Be unique!

For all of the fashionistas out there, fashion is all about what you wear and how you wear it. Its about colors, trends, styles, fits, and themes. This season is all about leggings, skinny jeans, thigh high boots, and off the shoulder t-shirts. Sounds like we are backtracking to the 80's. I'm not complaining, but its very easy to point out that fashion just seems to go in circles with its trends and themes. Sure, the colors and prints may be unique from the previous go-around, but it gets kind of old. What IS good about this is that when these fashions were in style, it was in our parents generation. Trends and the ongoing cycles give every generation of people to participate in those trends at least once. This is great and all, but isn't it refreshing to see someone on the street with their own sense of style, rocking it like they own the world?! I love it when I see that personally. It shows that people are comfortable in their own skin, beliefs, likes and dislikes, and that they are confident. Fashion is what we make it. God gave every person in this world their own personal thumb-print. Lets do this with our clothes. Find something you love, and make it yours. This could be a pair of shoes, an accessory, a
jacket, or something simple like a choice in your nail polish. Be you!

Jump out of the Box!

Its almost October and classes are in full swing. The first round of exams are here and the weather has been hinting that autumn is almost here. Fall is my favorite season of the year with the beautiful colors of the leaves as they change from dark green to gorgeous reds and vibrant oranges. Along with the cool, crisp weather comes a change in every girl's wardrobe. For most college girls in a sorority, this means dusting off your north face and digging out the Ugg boots from the back of your closet. This needs to change. This season, lets try not to be so stereotypical. Who wants to live in a small box anyways?! I mean lets face it, college is the place to be an individual and express yourself in the best way you can. This season, hats are the must have accessory. Maxi dresses that we've been seeing this summer are now available in long classic skirts. The biggest must have item this fall would be the thigh high boot. This can make any outfit stand out and either dress it up or down. A neutral color can be so versatile paired with any other colors.
